Most New Yorkers, let alone tourists, have never heard of Midwood – and that’s exactly what makes this “suburban” neighborhood Brooklyn’s best kept secret. About a 45-minute commute to Manhattan, Midwood is for people who want the experience of big city life while still being able to live in a single-family home. On the second floor of an HVAC shop, this event space is located on McDonald Avenue, home to various commercial storefronts.
Predominantly known as a Jewish Orthodox neighborhood, Midwood is also home to recently arrived immigrants of Chinese, Turkish, Polish, and Russian nationality. During the week, homemakers shop along nearby Avenue J and Coney Island Avenue for their daily wants and needs. Pomegranate is a kosher supermarket with gourmet food that’s a popular food destination with the locals. Essen Deli is an NYC classic with a Chinese-inspired twist. Weekends tend to be quiet, with many shops being closed in observance of the Sabbath. The Avenue I station is half a block away.
The ground floor is an HVAC shop and next door is a bathroom restoration company. Across the road is an auto shop. Further up the street are a few restaurants and bars.
McDonald Avenue is fairly commercial – keep that in mind when implementing your event idea.
