The Five at Five: Mabdulle
14 Apr 2022
From hidden-gems to places to people-watch, from bookshops to beauty spots – here is some inspiration, celebrating the independents in our local neighborhoods around the world.
This week’s selection has been curated by Mabdulle A.K.A. Mohammed Abdulle, the East London born and bred, Somali photographer who has worked with everyone from adidas to Nike, Hypebeast to Vogue.
Mabdulle is also one of the co-founders of Take More Photos – an online/offline community and studio for creatives. It aims to provide a platform for creators to be inspired, learn and network.
“My favourite restaurant would have to be Tayyabs in Whitechapel, London. It's an authentic family owned Punjabi cuisine (Indian) restaurant and IMO one of the best restaurants in London. It's huge, 3/4 floors, always busy and filled with so much good food. It's a good place if you're with a few friends or a giant group. It's my go to place to take friends whenever they're visiting London.”
“Central Station in New York or on a night out in Shoreditch. You meet some of the craziest characters and people from all walks of life. Makes me wonder what type of lives all these different human beings living in synergy live.”
“Mendo Books in Amsterdam. I've never seen such a creative book store that not only looks amazing but also produces and manufactures their own books. A must visit spot.”
“City Nail Spa in Spitalfields is my go-to place for manicures and pedicures. It's a lovely family-owned business and the staff are so welcoming.
“In terms of wellness it would have to be a spa I once went to in the Swiss mountains. I'll never forget being in a hot tub/pool overlooking the Swiss Alps.”
“Has to be Amsterdam. It's filled with amazing brands and stores. From upcoming to well established worldwide brands. From Daily Paper to FIlling Pieces, The New Originals, Dechase and Humbled Minded just to name a few of my favourites. Personally believe people in Amsterdam have the best style: everyone is unique in their own way and not dressed head-to-toe in designer, big-name brands which I love.”
