This week’s Five at Five is dedicated to continuing the conversation for Black Lives Matter, by sharing a selection of the recommendations we’ve found online and black-owned businesses you can support from our community.

Anything from Roundtable Books – they specialise in selling children’s books with BAME main characters after they found out they only made up 1% of children’s books. Roundtable Books started out as a pop-up in Brixton but due to popular demand they turned it into a permanent store. While their space is currently closed during the lockdown, you can use their online site to pre-order once restrictions lift.

Janet’s List. A great place to discover black-owned businesses is Janet’s List, which was launched by barrister turned entrepreneur, Janet Oganah. She created a place to discover and support independent brands owned by black women through her online store and series of pop-ups.

Donate

Head to Black Lives Matter to support these fundraisers which assist the families of the victims with financial support and with legal fees.

If you’re not in a position to donate funds you can donate by simply streaming the video. All ad revenue from Zoe Amira’s youtube video will be donated to Black Lives Matter and to protester bail funds.
